How We Keep You Safe
We are closely monitoring guidance from the local health department, the CDC and the State of Illinois to ensure we provide a safe fun race experience.
If needed we will have staggered starts throughout the morning allowing small groups of participants to go off every 10 minutes.
Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and if desired direct participants to areas where social distancing can be maintained while waiting for start times.
What if the Race Can't be Held?
Should conditions change and authorities prohibit a gathering of this type/size, your registration will automatically become a registration for virtual participation.
If this happens, we will send you an email with directions on how to participate virtually. You can then complete the run/walk on a 5K route of your choosing.

and Registration

Virtual Participation Option
Run your own race in your own space. Pick your favorite run or put time in on the treadmill. Virtual racers support the cause, get swag and do it their way!
Race Details
Run your race anytime between April 28 and May11, 2023. You select the route and can upload your finish time.
How Does "Virtual" Work?
The run/walk can be completed on any route including a lakeshore path, running track, a trail, a treadmill, uphill, downhill, any 5k you map out.
The best part about a virtual 5k is that you have the ability to complete your race anytime between April 28 and May 11, 2023 running or walking it any time of day at your own pace.
Times will be submitted by participants once they complete their race.
How does Timing Work for Virtual Racers
Racers will need to use the honors system to report their results. You can use an iPhone, an app, Apple watch, stopwatch, or whatever you have to track your time and distance.
It is on you to track your results and turn them into us before the end of day on Thursday May 11, 2023. Hope for Haitians will be posting the final results of all virtual racers on May 13th at our event and on our website/Facebook page for racers to see.
We also encourage racers to post photos to our private FB page set up for this event, or email them for us to share.
What Do I Get if I Participate Virtually?
All racers will receive a virtual bib that can be worn while completing their 5k, and will receive a Fun Bun Run Hope for Haitians 5k Tee Shirt for participating in the event.
Participants also have the opportunity to win beautiful custom made medals from Haitian Artists for the following categories:
- Runner participating from the furthest away
- Fastest virtual running time
- Best “Fun Bun Run” theme costume
- Oldest “wisest” runner
- Most photogenic course
Tee shirts and official bibs will ship during race week. Participants are encouraged to wear their virtual bibs while completing their race. Please take a photo while completing your 5k and share it with us.
What if I Change my Mind and Want to Attend the On-Site Event?
If you change your mind and decide to participate in the on-site event, you need to make the switch by May 11 to be preregistered. A new race waiver will need to be signed.
After that time, even if you come to the onsite event you will still be considered a “virtual” participant.
How We Keep You Safe
You can even run the entire 5K on a treadmill from the security of your home.
